Abstract

Cancer is a disease caused by irregular and uncontrolled cell growth. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) contains antioxydant substances and fiber, supposed to have anticancer property. The aim of this research is to examine the inhibitory effect of whole sorghum (S0) and half polished (S50) sorghum grain extract on proliferating lymphoma cancer cell Raji. Extraction of sorghum grain used extraction method based on solvent polarity of hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. Cytotoxic testing lethal concentration 50 (LC50) was done by BSLT method. Lymphocyte proliferative activity and inhibition of cancer cells were conducted by MTT method. The extract were also able to increase cell proliferation of lymphocytes (2-71%). Sorghum extract could inhibit the growth of Raji cells ( 80.08%). The results showed that sorghum extract could inhibit cancer cell proliferation.
