Abstract

The increase of red onion production can be performed by the improvement of cultivation technique fertilizing and distribution of organic mulch. The research objective was to find out the influence of distribution of manures and organic mulch as well as the best treatment between the dose of manures and organic mulch towards the growth and production of red onion. The research was conducted in Polohungo Village, Tolangohula Sub-district, Gorontalo District fo 3 months from August to November 2019. The research used factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factors where the first factor was organic mulch from lamtoro leaves and water hyacinth while the second factor was fertilizing, which contained manures for 15 tons/ha, 30 tons/ha, and control. The treatments were replicated three times and comprised 6 combinations of treatment so that there were 18 plots of experiment. The size was 1m x 1m with a plant spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm. The research finding showed that the distribution of manures did not have a significant influence towards the growth and yields of red onion plant. Meanwhile, the organic mulch had significant influence toward the growth and yields of red onion plant. The organic mulch from lamtoro leaves was the best treatment in influencing the growth and production of red onion plant.
