Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes is on the rise, coinciding with lifestyle changes such as decreased physical activity and increased consumption of unhealthy fast food. Insufficient public awareness regarding diabetes mellitus can contribute to poor adherence to both therapy and dietary recommendations. This study aimed to evaluate medication adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus participating in the referral back program at community health centers in Kediri City. The research employed a retrospective descriptive observational study design. A non-probability sampling technique was utilized to select a sample of 63 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus enrolled in the referral back program. Medication adherence was assessed using the Medication Possession Ratio (MPR). The analysis revealed that 48 patients (76%) exhibited non-adherence to medication intake, while 15 patients (24%) demonstrated adherence to medication intake within the referral back program at Puskesmas in Kediri City in 2023.
