Coastal Tourism Development Based on the Tourism Suitability Index and Carrying Capacity at Dulanga Beach, Bongo Village

Abstract


Dulanga Beach in Bongo Village, Gorontalo Regency, holds considerable coastal tourism potential but has not been developed optimally. This study assessed the tourism suitability index and carrying capacity of Dulanga Beach as a basis for sustainable tourism development. A field survey was conducted at three stations, measuring ten beach tourism suitability parameters: water depth, beach type, beach width, bottom substrate, current velocity, beach slope, water clarity, coastal land cover, dangerous biota, and freshwater availability. Data were analysed using a weighted coastal tourism suitability index following Yulianda (2019). Dulanga Beach was classified as highly suitable (S1) for coastal tourism, with station suitability indices of 2.75–2.83 (all TSI ≥ 2.5). The utilizable beach length was 377.77 m, with a maximum carrying capacity of 30 persons per day. These results indicate that Dulanga Beach has strong potential for sustainable coastal tourism development, with physical characteristics that support beach recreation activities
