Focus and Scope

Jurnal Entropi (JE) is the official journal of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The journal serves as a forum for researchers, educators, and practitioners to disseminate scientific research and scholarly developments in chemistry and chemistry education. JE publishes peer-reviewed research articles and scholarly contributions twice a year, in March and September.

The scope of articles published in Jurnal Entropi includes:


  • Analytical Chemistry, including analytical methods, chemical analysis, spectroscopy, chromatography, electrochemistry, and instrumentation;

  • Physical Chemistry, including thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, electrochemistry, molecular interactions, and physicochemical properties of chemical systems;

  • Inorganic Chemistry, including synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds and materials, coordination chemistry, structure and bonding, and applications of inorganic substances;

  • Organic Chemistry, including organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, natural products, heterocyclic chemistry, characterization, and applications of organic compounds;

  • Biochemistry, including biomolecules, enzymology, biochemical analysis, molecular interactions, and biochemical applications;

  • Computational Chemistry, including molecular modeling, molecular dynamics, molecular docking, quantum chemistry, cheminformatics, and computational approaches to chemical and biological systems; and

  • Chemistry Education, including chemistry teaching and learning, curriculum and instructional development, learning models and strategies, assessment, learning media and educational technology, misconceptions in chemistry, laboratory-based chemistry education, and the development and implementation of chemistry laboratory experiments for classroom and educational purposes.

Peer Review Process

The submitted manuscript is first reviewed by an editor. It will be evaluated to determine whether it is suitable for the focus and scope of Jurnal Entropi (JE), complies with the journal's submission guidelines, and meets the basic requirements for scientific and ethical standards. The manuscript is also screened for plagiarism and similarity using appropriate similarity-checking software.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening will be sent to at least two independent and anonymous reviewers with relevant expertise to evaluate the manuscript's contribution, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, clarity, and presentation. Jurnal Entropi applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential. Reviewers' comments and recommendations are then sent to the corresponding author for necessary revisions and responses.

The reviewers' recommendations are evaluated by the editor and, when necessary, discussed with the editorial board. Afterward, the editor will make the final decision and communicate it to the corresponding author.

Review Outcomes
Based on feedback from the peer-review process, the Editor will make a final decision regarding the publication of the manuscript. The review process will generally take approximately 4 to 8 weeks, although the actual duration may vary depending on the availability of reviewers and the revision process. The decision categories include:
  • Reject - The manuscript is rejected and will not be published in Jurnal Entropi. The authors may not resubmit the same manuscript unless explicitly invited by the editor.
  • Resubmit for Review - The manuscript requires substantial revision before it can be considered for publication. A substantially revised manuscript must be resubmitted and may undergo a second round of peer review.
  • Accept with Revisions - The manuscript is potentially acceptable for publication subject to minor or major revisions. The revised manuscript will be evaluated by the editor and, when necessary, returned to the reviewers to ensure that the required revisions have been adequately addressed.
  • Accept - The manuscript is accepted for publication in its current form, subject only to final editorial and production processes.

The reviewers' and editor's comments and recommendations will be conveyed to the authors, who will have an opportunity to revise the manuscript and provide a response to the comments. A manuscript returned to the authors for revision should normally be resubmitted within four weeks. Authors who require additional time should contact the editor before the revision deadline.

After Acceptance
After acceptance, the manuscript undergoes final editorial and production processes, including copyediting, formatting, and proofreading. The corresponding author will be given an opportunity to review the final proof before publication. Any language or technical corrections will be made in accordance with the journal's editorial standards.

 

Publication Frequency

Jurnal Entropi (JE) is the official journal of Chemistry Department, Faculty Mathematic and Natural Science, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. JE is peer-reviewed articles publish articles twice a year in March and September.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
By "open access" to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Publication Ethic

Jurnal Entropi (JE) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. This journal is available online and is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and academic integrity and to preventing plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct. This statement describes the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including the authors, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, peer reviewers, and the publisher (Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo). This statement is based on COPE's Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication. The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is an essential component in the development of a coherent and respected body of scientific knowledge. Peer-reviewed publications reflect the quality and integrity of the research conducted by authors and their affiliated institutions. Therefore, all parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold high standards of ethical behavior and academic integrity.

The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, as the publisher of Jurnal Entropi, takes its responsibilities for all stages of publication seriously. The publisher and Editorial Board are committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by advertising, commercial interests, or other external factors. The publisher and Editorial Board will also facilitate communication with authors, reviewers, and other journals or publishers when necessary to address ethical or publication-related issues.

Publication Decisions. The Editor-in-Chief of Jurnal Entropi is responsible for making the final decision regarding which submitted manuscripts should be published. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's scientific quality, originality, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, methodological rigor, and contribution to the field. The Editor-in-Chief may consult with members of the Editorial Board and peer reviewers when making publication decisions.

Editorial decisions must also comply with applicable legal and ethical requirements, including those relating to plagiarism, copyright infringement, research misconduct, and defamation.

Fair Play. The editors evaluate manuscripts based on their intellectual and scientific content without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality. The Editor-in-Chief, editors, and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of all information concerning submitted manuscripts. Information about a submitted manuscript may only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest. Editors must not use unpublished information or materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the express written consent of the author. Editors and Editorial Board members must declare and manage any conflicts of interest that may influence their editorial decisions.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions. Peer review assists the editor in making informed editorial decisions. Reviewers' constructive comments and recommendations may also help authors improve the quality, clarity, and scientific rigor of their manuscripts.

Promptness. Any reviewer who feels unqualified to review a manuscript or knows that they cannot complete the review within the required time should promptly notify the editor and decline the invitation to review.

Confidentiality. Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not disclose, share, or discuss the manuscript or its contents with anyone other than the editor without authorization.

Standards of Objectivity. Reviews should be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their evaluations clearly and provide supporting arguments and constructive suggestions.

Acknowledgement of Sources. Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any claim, observation, derivation, or argument that has previously been reported should be supported by an appropriate citation. Reviewers should also notify the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other published work of which they are aware.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest. Information, ideas, or data obtained through the peer-review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal or professional advantage. Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts when they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, personal, institutional, or other relationships with any of the authors, organizations, or institutions associated with the manuscript.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards. Authors of original research articles should present an accurate account of the research conducted and provide an objective discussion of its significance. Research data should be presented accurately, and the manuscript should contain sufficient methodological details and appropriate references to allow the work to be understood and, where applicable, replicated. Fabrication, falsification, manipulation of data, and knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention. Authors should retain the research data supporting their manuscript for a reasonable period after publication. When requested by the editor, authors should be prepared to provide relevant data or supporting materials for editorial evaluation, subject to ethical, legal, privacy, and confidentiality considerations.

Originality and Plagiarism. Authors must ensure that their submitted work is original. Any use of the ideas, words, data, figures, or other materials of others must be appropriately cited or acknowledged. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication. Authors should not submit or publish essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgement of Sources. Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others that has contributed to their research. All publications that have significantly influenced the research should be appropriately cited.

Authorship of the Manuscript. Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research. All individuals who have made significant contributions should be appropriately recognized as authors. Individuals who have contributed to specific aspects of the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors are included, that no inappropriate authors are listed, and that all authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest. Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation. All sources of financial support for the research should also be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works. When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they should promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief or publisher and cooperate with the journal in correcting or, when necessary, retracting the article.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Jurnal Entropi (JE) publishes all its articles in a completely open-access format, providing the scientific community and the general public with free, unrestricted, and immediate access to all published content as soon as it becomes available online. Due to this model, JE does not generate revenue from "pay-per-view" fees or subscription sales for print versions or journal access. Therefore, to cover editorial and production costs, JE charges an article processing charge (APC) to the authors' institutions or research funding bodies. The APC for JE is Rp. 150,000.00, and it covers all editorial and production services for an article. Submission to JE is free of charge.

This journal charges the following author fees.

Article Submission: 0.00 (IDR)

Authors are NOT required to pay an Article Submission Fee as part of the submission process to contribute to review costs.

Article Publication: 150,000.00 (IDR).

If this paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Publication Fee to cover publication costs.

Jurnal Entropi Editorial Board will ensure that every published article will not exceed a 20% similarity Score. Plagiarism screening using Turnitin.
