Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon of increasing temperature in densely populated areas due to reduced vegetation and high anthropogenic activities. This community service aims to enhance environmental awareness and community participation through socialization and education on vertical garden implementation as a micro-scale UHI mitigation strategy in Daenaa Village. The method used is participatory and educative, involving socialization, environmental education, technical training, and mentoring activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the implementation process. The results show that the socialization process successfully increased community understanding of environmental issues and the benefits of vertical gardens. Community participation was evident through active involvement in the construction and maintenance of vertical gardens using recycled materials. This program not only improves microclimate conditions but also strengthens ecological awareness and social cohesion within the community. The vertical garden serves as an effective educational medium and a sustainable solution for environmental management in limited land areas.
