Abstract

The World Health Organization in early 2020 declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) and on March 11, 2020 was designated as a pandemic event.  Furthermore, data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia shows that there has been a rapid increase in COVID-19 infection outbreaks in less than one month (March 2020) in the territory of Indonesia. The Indonesian Ministry of Health states that severe symptoms and serious complications due to COVID-19 are more commonly experienced by the elderly (elderly) and or accompanied by certain risks, such as non-communicable diseases (PTM) such as hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus. In addition, Riskesdas 2018 data shows that the prevalence of PTM in Gorontalo Province is included in the top 10 (ten) top in Indonesia.Getting used to washing your hands with soap and running water is important. This will be the key to killing, damaging, and shutting down the virus that pollutes our hands. Indirect transmission of the Covid-19 virus is the most common. The transmission occurs through objects around us that are contaminated with the Covid-19 virus that we touch and then touch the mouth, nose, and eyes. Then the contagion is very effective. The culture in Gorontalo in doing hand washing using soap is still very minimal. This is the most common way of transmission due to indirect transmission. Maybe we can protect ourselves by wearing masks, but pollution on objects around us that we usually touch should be watched out for. Safety culture must be thoroughly cultivated to avoid this virus. a person who carries the virus in his body and does not wear a mask, then the person around him has a 75 percent risk of contracting it because a splash of saliva hits many objects. This is the importance of hand washing because we never know who is affected by coronavirus.
