Focus and Scope

The aim of this journal publication is to disseminate the conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in the area of community services. Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi, particularly focuses on the main problems in the development of the sciences of community services areas as follows:

  • Education for Sustainable Development.
  • Community Services, People, Local Food Security, Nutrition and Public Health;
  • Training, Marketing, Appropriate Technology, Design;
  • Community Empowerment, Social Access;
  • Student Community Services;
  • Border Region, Less Developed Region.

Peer Review Process

Lamahu : Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi publishes articles following Lamahu guidelines and templates. A pre-review of the manuscript was conducted by an editorial team to review the suitability of the text with the focus and scope and style of the journal and Lamahu writing guidelines. All manuscripts sent will go through a double-blind review process. Manuscripts will be sent to a minimum of two reviewers based on their field of specialization. Reviewers provide script assessments that include originality, scientific contributions, and presentation clarity. Based on the comments and suggestions from the editorial board reviewer made a decision on the reviewer's comments and suggestions. Lamahu has four types of decisions including accepted, accepted by minor revisions, accepted by major revisions, and rejected. Plagiarism examination is performed using Turnitin software. 

 

Publication Frequency

Lamahu is scheduled for publication in February and August (2 issues a year). It is electronically published via journal website (https://ejurnal.ung.ac.id/index.php/lamahu/indexv). Each issue number (issue) amounts to a minimum of five (5) the title and published article will be assigned a DOI (digital object identifier).

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

By "open access" to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Publication Ethics

Lamahu : Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi is a peer-reviewed journal published by Department of Earth Science and Technology, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. This journal is available in print and online and highly respects the publication ethic and avoids any type of plagiarism. This statement explains the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the editor in chief, the editorial board, the peer-reviewers­­­­­ and the publisher (Department of Earth Science and Technology). This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication. The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal of LAMAHU is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society.

Department of Earth Science and Technology as publisher of Lamahu takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing seriously and we recognize our ethical behavior and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, Department of Earth Science and Technology and Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful and necessary.

Publication decisions. The editor of the Lamahu : Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may work with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair play. The editor at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality. The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions. Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.

Promptness. Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality. Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity. Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources. Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Authors

Reporting standards. Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention. Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Originality and Plagiarism. The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication. An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgement of Sources. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest. All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published works. When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

Plagiarism Policy

Lamahu : Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi editorial board recognizes that plagiarism is not acceptable and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) upon identification of plagiarism/similarities in articles submitted for publication in Lamahu. Lamahu will use Turnitin's originality checking software as the tool in detecting similarities of texts in article manuscripts and the final version of articles ready for publication. A maximum of 20 % of similarities is allowed for the submitted papers. Should we find more than 20 % of the similarity index, the article will be returned to the author for correction and re-submission.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy:

Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source needs to be clearly identified as different from the present original text by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.

Any text of an amount exceeding fair use standards (herein defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent thereof) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s) and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publication.

When plagiarism is identified, the Editor in Chief responsible for the review of this paper and will agree on measures according to the extent of plagiarism detected in the paper in agreement with the following guidelines:

Level of Plagiarism

Minor Plagiarism

A small sentence or short paragraph of another manuscript is plagiarized without any significant data or ideas taken from the other papers or publications.
Punishment: A warning is given to the authors and a request to change the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.

Intermediate Plagiarism

A significant data, paragraph, or sentence of an article is plagiarized without proper citation to the original source.

Punishment: The submitted article is automatically rejected.

Severe Plagiarism

A large portion of an article is plagiarized that involves many aspects such as reproducing original results (data, formulation, equation, law, statement, etc.), ideas, and methods presented in other publications.

Punishment: The paper is automatically rejected and the authors are forbidden to submit further articles to the journal.

 

Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools Policy

These policies are established in response to the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic publishing and community engagement activities. The policy aims to promote transparency, research integrity, responsible technology use, and clear guidance for authors, reviewers, editors, and readers of Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi.

The journal recognizes that generative AI and AI-assisted tools may provide useful support in manuscript preparation and other scholarly activities. However, the use of such technologies must remain under appropriate human oversight and must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, professional expertise, critical thinking, or scholarly judgment.

Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi will continue to monitor developments in generative AI and AI-assisted technologies and may revise this policy as ethical standards, publishing practices, and technological developments evolve.

For Authors – Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools

Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi recognizes the potential benefits of generative AI and AI-assisted tools when used responsibly to support manuscript preparation, including language improvement, grammar and spelling correction, literature organization, content structuring, and other appropriate editorial purposes.

The use of AI tools must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution or scholarly judgment. Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical standards of their manuscripts.

Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible and accountable for:

  • Verifying the accuracy, relevance, integrity, and objectivity of any content generated or assisted by AI tools.
  • Ensuring that the manuscript represents the authors’ original intellectual contribution.
  • Ensuring that the description of community service activities, participants, data, findings, and outcomes is accurate and based on the actual activities conducted.
  • Maintaining data privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and applicable ethical standards.
  • Checking AI-generated content for factual errors, misleading statements, inappropriate interpretations, and potential bias.
  • Disclosing the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools when such use materially contributes to the preparation or development of the manuscript.

Basic grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language correction using AI-assisted tools do not necessarily require disclosure. However, substantial use of AI for generating, rewriting, summarizing, interpreting, or developing manuscript content must be disclosed appropriately.

Any substantial use of AI tools in the research or community engagement process must also be described transparently in the relevant section of the manuscript, particularly the Methods section, where applicable.

Responsible Use

Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools:

  • Does not compromise the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts, research data, community participants’ information, or other sensitive materials.
  • Does not involve uploading personal, confidential, or identifiable information into AI systems without appropriate authorization.
  • Does not transfer intellectual property rights or ownership of the authors’ work beyond what is necessary to use the AI service.
  • Does not impose restrictions that prevent or limit future publication or dissemination of the manuscript.
  • Does not introduce fabricated references, inaccurate information, unsupported claims, or misleading descriptions of community service activities.
  • Is subject to human verification and critical evaluation before the AI-assisted content is incorporated into the manuscript.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that all references, citations, data, quotations, and factual claims are accurate and appropriately sourced.

AI and Authorship

Generative AI tools and AI-assisted systems must not be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi.

Authorship is limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the work and who can take responsibility for the content, integrity, and accountability of the manuscript.

AI tools cannot take responsibility for the manuscript and therefore cannot meet the requirements for authorship.

Figures, Images, and Artwork

The use of generative AI to create, substantially alter, or manipulate photographs, figures, illustrations, diagrams, or other visual materials representing research or community service activities is not permitted when such use could misrepresent the actual activities, participants, data, or results.

Authors may make limited technical adjustments to images, such as cropping, resizing, brightness, or contrast adjustments, provided that these modifications do not distort, conceal, or misrepresent the underlying information.

Generative AI may be used to create images, illustrations, or other visual materials only when such generation constitutes an explicit and legitimate component of the research or community engagement methodology. In such cases, the use of AI must be clearly disclosed and described in sufficient detail to enable transparency and reproducibility.

The use of generative AI for journal cover artwork or other promotional materials may be permitted subject to prior editorial approval and appropriate verification of copyright and licensing rights.

For Reviewers – Use of Generative AI in Peer Review

All manuscripts submitted to Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi, together with reviewer reports and related materials, must be treated as strictly confidential.

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, unpublished data, or any part of confidential editorial materials into publicly available generative AI or AI-assisted tools. Such use may compromise confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and data privacy.

Peer review is based on human expertise, critical judgment, and scholarly responsibility. Therefore, reviewers are not permitted to use generative AI or AI-assisted tools to evaluate the scientific, methodological, ethical, or substantive content of a manuscript.

Reviewers remain fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, fairness, integrity, confidentiality, and originality of their review reports.

Reviewers may consider and assess authors’ disclosed use of AI tools as part of the editorial evaluation. Any suspected inappropriate or undisclosed use of AI should be communicated to the editor.

Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi may use secure and editorially approved AI-assisted systems for limited administrative purposes, such as plagiarism screening, technical manuscript checks, metadata processing, or reviewer identification, provided that such systems comply with applicable confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, and ethical requirements.

For Editors – Use of Generative AI in the Editorial Process

All submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial decisions, and correspondence between authors, reviewers, and editors must be treated as strictly confidential.

Editors must not upload manuscripts, reviewer reports, decision letters, or confidential editorial correspondence into publicly available generative AI or AI-assisted tools.

Editorial assessment and decision-making must remain based on human expertise, critical judgment, and editorial responsibility. Editors are therefore not permitted to use generative AI or AI-assisted tools to independently evaluate the scientific quality, methodological validity, ethical compliance, or substantive contribution of manuscripts, nor may AI systems determine editorial decisions.

Editors remain fully responsible and accountable for:

  • The integrity of the editorial and peer-review process.
  • Editorial decisions concerning submitted manuscripts.
  • The confidentiality of manuscripts and editorial correspondence.
  • The fair and ethical treatment of authors and reviewers.
  • Addressing potential violations of the journal’s AI policy.

Editors may evaluate authors’ AI disclosure statements as part of the editorial assessment. If inappropriate, undisclosed, or potentially unethical use of AI is identified, the editor may request clarification from the authors or take further action in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi may employ secure, editor-approved AI-assisted systems for limited administrative functions, including plagiarism screening, technical manuscript checks, metadata processing, and reviewer identification. Such systems must be used in accordance with applicable standards for confidentiality, data protection, intellectual property, and publication ethics.

Transparency and Disclosure of AI Use

Authors are encouraged to maintain transparency regarding any substantial use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools during manuscript preparation or the research/community engagement process.

Where disclosure is required, authors should identify:

  1. The name of the AI tool or system used.
  2. The purpose for which the tool was used.
  3. The stage of the research, community engagement, analysis, or manuscript preparation in which the tool was used.
  4. The extent to which AI contributed to the work.
  5. The measures taken by the authors to verify and validate AI-assisted content.

AI tools should be regarded as assistive technologies rather than substitutes for human scholarly responsibility. Final responsibility for all content submitted to Lamahu: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat Terintegrasi remains with the authors.
