Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Ethno-STEM-based Predict–Observe–Explain (POE) learning strategy on students’ conceptual change in molecular shape learning through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The review was conducted using the PRISMA procedure with article sources obtained from Google Scholar, Scopus, ERIC, Garuda, and Sinta databases published between 2014 and 2025. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of misconceptions, the effectiveness of the POE strategy, and the contribution of the Ethno-STEM approach in chemistry learning. The findings revealed that students still experience misconceptions regarding molecular shape concepts, particularly related to VSEPR theory, bond angles, and molecular polarity. The POE strategy was found to be effective in creating cognitive conflict and supporting students’ conceptual change. Meanwhile, the Ethno-STEM approach enhances meaningful learning through the integration of local culture. The integration of Ethno-STEM-based POE has the potential to create more contextual, active, and meaningful chemistry learning.
