Modifikasi Kitosan Dari Limbah Cangkang Kepiting Sebagai Sediaan Material Membran Filtrasi Air

Abstract


Tingkat pencemaran air global saat ini telah mencapai 65%, yang terdiri atas pencemaran polutan organik 40% dan anorganik 25%. Oleh sebab itu, perlu dilakukan solusi penyelesaian kasus pencemaran air dengan berbagai pendekatan polimer alami, salah satunya penggunaan membran kitosan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menyiapkan material kitosan lau dimodifikasi menjadi membran filtrasi pada kolom filtrasi dan diujikan pada sampel air. Indikator pengukuran kualitas air setelah proses filtrasi dengan membran kitosan meliputi oksigen terlarut (DO), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biological Oxigen Demand (BOD) dan derajat keasaman (pH). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kondisi air bahan baku sebelum proses filtrasi memiliki karakteristik oksigen terlarut (DO), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Biological Oxigen Demand (BOD) dan derajat keasaman (pH) beradap pada kualitas kelas IV yang hanya dimanfaatkan untuk kepentingan pertanian. Sebaliknya, setelah proses filtrasi dengan membran kitosan yang diekstraksi dari limbah cangkang kepiting, karakteristik kualitas air tersebut telah tergolong dalam kualitas baku mutu air kelas II yakni kandungan DO 3,92 mg/l, TSS 42,64 mg/l, BOD 5,95 mg/l dan pH 8. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa membran kitosan yang diekstraksi dari limbah cangkang kepiting memiliki potensi pengembangan sebagai sumber material filtrasi air
