Copyright and License Policy

JAMBURA Journal of Architecture (JJoA) applies an author-retained copyright model. Authors retain copyright in their published work, while articles are made available under an open Creative Commons license that defines how published material may be reused.

This page explains article copyright, publishing authorization, public reuse permissions, author self-archiving, and electronic archiving. Journal ownership and management are explained on the Ownership & Management page.

1. Copyright

Authors retain copyright in articles published by JAMBURA Journal of Architecture. Copyright transfer to the journal, its owner (Universitas Negeri Gorontalo), or its publisher (Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo) is not required as a condition of publication.

Permission to publish: By submitting a manuscript and agreeing to the publication of an accepted article, the author(s) grant JJoA the right of first publication and a non-exclusive authorization to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and make the article publicly available as part of the scholarly record.

Author ownership: This authorization does not transfer copyright ownership. Authors retain the right to reuse their work, subject to applicable third-party rights.

Author responsibilities: Authors must hold the rights necessary to authorize publication, obtain agreement from all co-authors, and secure any required permissions for third-party material. The corresponding author confirms these responsibilities by completing the Author Declaration Form.

Copyright notice: Published articles identify the author(s) as copyright holder and state the publication year, together with the Creative Commons license statement.
Example: Copyright © 2026 [Author Name(s)]. This article is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Royalties: As an open-access journal, JJoA does not pay royalties or other fees to authors for published articles.

2. Author Publishing Rights

Authors retain the right to use, share, distribute, reproduce, and archive their work in accordance with applicable rights and license terms, including the right to:

  • use the substance of the article in their own future works, including lectures, theses, dissertations, and books;
  • reproduce the article for their own teaching and research purposes;
  • enter into separate, non-exclusive arrangements for distribution of the published version (for example, posting it in an institutional repository or publishing it in a book), with acknowledgment of its initial publication in JJoA.

When reusing or redistributing the article, authors are encouraged to include the full citation, DOI, and a link to the version published on the JJoA website. These author rights do not revoke permissions already granted to other users under the article's Creative Commons license.

3. License

Articles published in JJoA are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless otherwise indicated.

Under this license, users may:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial purposes.

These permissions are subject to the following conditions:

  • Attribution: Give appropriate credit to the author(s) and JJoA, provide a link to the license, and indicate whether changes were made. Attribution must not imply endorsement by the author(s) or the journal.
  • ShareAlike: Distribute adaptations under CC BY-SA 4.0 or a compatible license.
  • No additional restrictions: Do not apply legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

4. Third-Party Material

The CC BY-SA 4.0 license applies to the original content of each article unless otherwise indicated. Reproduced photographs, architectural drawings, plans, maps, figures, tables, datasets, and other third-party content may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions. Such exclusions should be clearly identified in a credit line or accompanying notice.

Authors must obtain the required permissions from building owners, architects, institutions, or other rights holders and acknowledge the original source appropriately. Users wishing to reuse excluded material must comply with its separate conditions or obtain permission from the relevant rights holder.

5. Self-Archiving and Repository Policy

JJoA permits authors to deposit their articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal academic websites, academic profiles, and other legitimate open-access repositories. Authors may archive:

  • Submitted manuscript: the version submitted before peer review;
  • Accepted manuscript: the version accepted after peer review, before final journal formatting;
  • Published version: the final article as published in JJoA.

No embargo period is imposed on author self-archiving. Deposits should identify the manuscript version and, after publication, include the full citation, DOI, and a link to the published version. Repository copies should also indicate any subsequent correction or retraction and link to the corresponding notice in accordance with the Correction and Retraction Policy.

6. Electronic Archiving and Preservation

All published issues and articles are permanently available through the journal's online archive at https://ejurnal.ung.ac.id/index.php/jja/issue/archive, hosted on the Universitas Negeri Gorontalo e-journal platform. Article metadata is openly available through the journal's OAI-PMH interface and is harvested by Garuda and Indonesia OneSearch, and article DOIs are registered with Crossref.

The journal database and article files are backed up regularly by the ICT unit of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. In accordance with Law No. 13 of 2018 on the Deposit of Printed and Recorded Works, the publisher deposits the published issues of JJoA with the National Library of Indonesia (Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia).

JJoA plans to join the PKP Preservation Network after migrating to OJS 3. This page will be updated once deposit in that service has been confirmed.

7. Relationship to Open Access

These copyright and licensing arrangements support immediate open access while allowing authors to retain copyright in their scholarly work. Further details about reader access are provided in the journal's Open Access Policy.
