Authorship
JJETL follows the authorship recommendations of COPE and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). A person qualifies as an author only when they meet all of the following:
- Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
- Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
- Approval of the final version to be published.
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.
Contributors who do not meet all four criteria, such as those who only supervised, provided funding, collected data, or proofread, are thanked in the Acknowledgements section. Adding, removing, or reordering authors after submission requires a written request explaining the reason, signed by all authors, and is allowed only before acceptance.
Conflict of interest
A conflict of interest exists when a financial, professional, or personal relationship could influence, or appear to influence, the judgement of an author, reviewer, or editor. Authors declare all funding sources and any competing interests in a "Declaration of Competing Interest" statement at the end of the manuscript. If there are none, they write: "The authors declare no competing interests". Reviewers decline an invitation, or inform the editor, when they have a close collaborative, institutional, personal, or competitive relationship with the authors, or a financial interest in the outcome of the work. Editors do not take part in decisions on manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
Editors, including the Editor in Chief, may submit their own research to JJETL. To ensure impartiality:
- The submitting editor has no access to the manuscript's review records and takes no part in its handling.
- The manuscript is assigned to another editor with no conflict of interest. When the Editor in Chief is an author, a senior member of the editorial board acts as handling editor.
- The manuscript goes through the same double-blind review by at least two independent reviewers, preferably from outside Universitas Negeri Gorontalo.
Editorial board members' articles should not exceed a reasonable proportion of any issue.
